And now for what is undoubtedly the most boring segment of any website - apart that is, from those in which the site owner provides you with unwanted details of their height, weight, vital statistics, personal interests and star sign (yuk). Ladies and gentlemen, it's the updates page, that desert of cyber- tedium, where I try to convince you of what a diligent and conscientious page owner I am. Or rather that should be how creatively I've been avoiding all the real work I have to do;-)
October 2002 As has been customary of late, there's not an enormous amount to progress to report this month. A number of intensive searches have failed to unearth my elusive B5 transcript notebook, so only "No Surrender, No Retreat", Corwin's single appearance in B5 Series 4, and "No Compromises", his first outing in Series 5 can be offered by way of dialoge uploads. On the other hand, several video clips are now in place - one each from "And Now For A Word,", and "GROPOS," and 8 from "Exogenesis". There is however, plenty of activity on on the B5 front. "Crusade" is currently enjoying an airing on the Sci-Fi Channel, and Babylon 5 is scheduled for repetition on the same channel starting on October 22nd. Furthermore, Warner Home Video have released a Flash presentation for the "B5" Season 1 DVDs. In addition to the extras that JMS has already mentioned (2 episode commentaries, new cast and crew interviews as part of a new documentary, an on-camera interview and on-camera introduction with JMS) the set will include the "Making of" documentary produced for the Season 1 kick-off, hosted by Walter Koenig. Further details can be found at http://www.whvdirect.com/babylon5/index.html. Copies of the first series DVD can be pre-ordered from Amazon. And finally, for those of you interested in what Josh has been getting up to over the last couple of months, well there is, as usual not a lot of news out there, although I did manage to turn up this article mentioning his involvement in a surfing event aimed at raiding funds for the USCD Cancer Centre back at the end of August. July 2002 Well - August, really as it's 3 weeks overdue. I'm afraid this month sees another rather insubstantial update, owing to the loss of the notebook containing my Corwin transcripts, before I'd managed to get the most recent offerings typed up. So - the only new dialogue extracts are those from "Severed Dreams". In addition to this capture images from Josh's appearance in "Players"have also been uploaded, together with sound files from the B5 episodes "Hunter, Prey" and "A Distant Star," and from "The People Under the Stairs." As for B5 news, details of the Series 1 DVD due out this autumn have finally been released. Accoring to JMS, "The disk has an on-camera introduction by me (despite my warnings that this would undoubtedly drive down sales), a letter of introduction each by me and Doug Netter, and the half-hour piece features new interviews with Rick Biggs, Stephen Furst, me, Doug, efx maven Mitch Suskin, makeup whiz John Vulich, and others." DVD's of Series 2 and 3 have been given a tentative release date of April and November 2003 respectively. As a final point of information, UK Josh fans may be interesed to know that the Providence episode "Sibling Rivalry," in which the man himself makes a guest appearance, will be broadcast on ITV 1 on Wednesday 28th August. Those in the UTV region can see the programme at 11.10 am - those living elsewhere in the country would be advised to check their regional TV schedule. June 2002 After a delay of 3 months, finally, an update. Much of the intervening period has been spent restructuring the site, in a attempt to simplify its increasingly unweildy navigation. I have no idea how successful the experimental structure has been, but so far no-one's sent me any hate mail, so I'll assume the arrangements are satisfactory for now. A general introduction to Babylon 5, and a short piece outlining Corwin's duties and position have also been added. Some additional content is in place, although nowhere near as much as I'd hoped. Firstly, transcripts of Corwin's dialogue from A Day in the Strife, Exogenesis, Voices of Authority, Point of No Return, Ceremonies of Light and Dark, War Without End Pt1, Shadow Dancing and Z'ha'dum have been uploaded, more or less completing the dialogue section for Babylon 5 Series 3. Some of the extracts are fairly spoiler-heavy, so read them at your own risk ;-) You may notice that Severed Dreams is missing from the list, and my apologies for the omission. It's a complicated episode to transcribe, so it's taking a little longer than I'd anticipated. Capture images from Josh's fleeting appearance in "The Burning Zone" have also been added - my thanks to Sharon West for providing the tape, along with some embarrassingly poor quality sound files from his appearance in "21 Jump St" and the B5 episode "No Surrender, No Retreat." Lastly some news that slipped past me at the end of last year. Between November and December 2001, Josh was involved in yet another independent film. "The Retreat" concerns a family reunion at which a dark secret is unveiled, and when last heard of was awaiting distribution. February 2002 I'm afraid that the update for this month is a little on the meagre side, as between ill heath and errant HTML, not much time was left for compiling information. Nevertheless, a few new bits and pieces have been included. Firstly, transcripts of Corwin's dialogue from "Divided Loyalties," "Knives," "The Long Twilight Struggle," "Comes the Inquisitor" and "The Fall of Night" have now been uploaded, completing the dialogue section for B5 Series 2. Secondly, February being a month traditionally associated with romantic love, and more particularly with red roses, the newly created Page of Ultimate Sadness offers a few suggestions on what to do with an unwanted floral tribute, as well as a David Corwin Sim Pack. On a more general note, January saw the release of ratings figures for the B5 film "Legend of the Rangers." Broadcast in the US only, overall the film fared exceedingly well, although the ratings average was damaged by viewing figures from the East Coast, where the movie had coincided with a football game. Details of a letter writing campaign aimed at demonstrating support for the Ranger project can be found at the ISN: Zocalo Today site. Lastly, it was announced by Electronic Media that Lifetime Television has commissioned a 3rd full series of the medical drama "Strong Medicine," so we can be assured that Josh will remain employed and on-screen for some time to come. January 2002 While there is no actual update for January , I'd like to extend my apologies to anyone who mailed me within the last few weeks regarding the site. Unfortunately my mail programme succumbed to a corrupted inbox, erasing quite a number of unread messages, so if haven't responded to you, *please* don't imagine I'm being rude. I simply can't reply, as I don't any longer have anything to reply to. The availability of an update for February is also a little uncertain, as I've discovered a major glitch with this site's HTML. As I have no means for correcting HTML omissions/errors automatically, and there are now just over 100 pages on the site, rectifying the mistake is bound to take a while. By way of information, January saw the partial restoration of The Lurker's Guideat it's usual address, and Babylon 5 - Legend of the Rangers was broadcast on the US Sci-Fi Channel on the 19th of this month. December 2001 This month the mystery of the vanished Lurker's Guide was finally solved, as Steven Grimm - the site's proprietor, posted a message to the B5 Newsgroup explaining it's sudden demise. Apparently the site disappeared when the server it was stored on was stolen (!!) from the Midwinter premises - but as soon as alternative hosting arrangements can be made, the Lurker's Guide will be back in business. It has also been announced that the forthcoming B5 movie "Legend of the Rangers" is to be broadcast on the sci-fi channel in January 2002. Sadly Corwin is not destined to appear in the production, but it does sound like a promising film nevertheless. As for subsequent additions to this site, I've unearthed a 4th interview with Josh (listed on the interviews page as No. 2, as I'm keeping them in chronological order), reproduced from the July 1997 edition of the B5 Times. Capture images of his 1996 appearance in Sliders have also been uploaded - and many thanks to Jennifer Smith for providing the tape :-) - along with Corwin sound files from the B5 episode "A Day In The Strife," and transcripts from the B5 episodes - "Babylon Squared," "A Distant Star," "The Geometry of Shadows," "A Spider in the Web," "All Alone in the Night," "Acts of Sacrifice" and "Hunter Prey". November 2001 This month appears to be slightly more encouraging for Babylon 5 and Corwin fans than October. Firstly, "B5's Virtual Season 6", a remarkable fan-fic enterprise in which our dear Lieutenant is awarded a starring role, has made a welcome return at a new if somewhat under-publicised address. Furthermore, the web-master of the B5 Encyclopedia, has confirmed that the Lurker's Guide, off-line since the middle of September, will be reinstated at some point in the foreseeable future. This small and insignificant corner of the web has also undergone some minor advances. Following months of persistent enquiry, I've finally managed to obtain a recording of Josh's quite substantial appearance in the 21 Jump St episode "Swallowed Alive" - on this occasion thanks go to Cyndi Glass for providing the tape. Audio clips from Josh's guest starring role in Friends and his highly amusing performance in "The Runestone" have also uploaded, along with transcripts of Corwin's dialogue from the B5 episodes "Points of Departure" and "The Geometry of Shadows." Lastly, I've recieved a little news regarding the last film to feature Mr Coxx - the independent production "Backgammon." The film secured an award for best comedy at the New York Independent Film Festival, and according to writer/director Ziri Rideaux, "Backgammon" has now moved on to the stage of sale. While this means that no distribution agreements are as yet in place, it does look as though the film may yet emerge into the light of day. October 2001 I'm afraid that this month's update is relatively Spartan in nature. The horrific events of September 11th having thrown the international postal system into chaos, many materials I was expecting for the site simply did not arrive. September was also a strange month for Babylon 5 fans, who witnessed the disappearance of no less than 3 well established first generation sites, including the superlative Lurker's Guide, and the About Guide to Babylon 5. Corwin fans suffered a dual blow, as "Save Corwin" and "Virtual Season 6" also underwent a precipitous demise. The good news was that I managed to salvage a reasonable proportion of the latter site, and Save Corwin has duly been enshrined in the VOC&C archive. I've also uploaded transcripts of Corwin's dialogue from 4 B5 episodes - "Signs and Portents," "Legacies," and "A Voice in the Wilderness" parts 1 and 2, along with some new audio captures from the series 2 episode "Points of Departure" and the B5 film "River of Souls." Unfortunately there isn't anything more exciting to provide. I'd like to take this opportunity to express my condolences to everyone who suffered bereavement as a result of the attacks on Washington and New York, and details of how you can contribute to the American disaster relief fund can be found by following this link. Donations to the humanitarian relief effort in Afghanistan can be made at this site. September 2001 6 months on, and VOC&C is actually beginning to look like a website. Besides a new and more lucid navigation system, the section devoted to Josh's work outside Babylon 5 continues to expand, as I've acquired a copy of his appearance in the NBC drama "Providence." My *enormous* thanks to Karen Karas for providing the tape. Probably the most welcome news is that I contacted the owner of the Starriders Net with a view to resurrecting the sadly departed "Babylon 5's Unknown Soldier". She has very kindly consented to pass the site material to me for preservation, so thanks to Louise, the Starriders tribute to Lt Corwin is operational once more!
August 2001 August's update comprises video captures from some of Josh's early performances in The Runestone and The People Under the Stairs, as well as a more recent appearance in Friends. A third interview, published in "Dreamwatch" in October 1997, has been added on the appropriate page, and although I have no means of viewing Strong Medicine - I'm in Northern Ireland, and it's not broadcast anywhere outside the States, I have nevertheless managed to obtain some images from the Lifetime website. Admittedly these were somewhat illegally acquired during a security lapse in their press room - but stuff it. They were the ones who left the door open;-) I've also provided some capture images from the Series 2 episode "Points of Departure." July 2001 Progress at last. After weeks of trial, error, threats, voluble profanity, and treating my cohabitants to some very amusing late night displays of unladylike of ill-temper, I've finally managed to coerce my temperamental video capture card into some semblance of working order. In consequence I've been able to amass a nice fresh selection of Corwin images from all 5 series of Babylon 5, for presentation on the site. I've also able been to add a few more audio files, and set about obtaining videos of some of Mr Coxx's other work. Productivity gives you such a warming glow. June 2001 The early part of June hasn't brought any vast material improvement to the site - I've simply unified the colour scheme, repaired the frameset document, compiled the arguments I have for years been using to refute Corwin's detractors into a reasonably cohesive, if desperately boring piece, and added the audio files I've been recording of our dear Lieutenant's early appearances in Babylon 5. May 2001 This month, I've finally executed my threats and established a Corwin site. We open on a fairly dismal scene - one alleged "story" penned by my good self the last time my medication was adjusted, a brace of interviews (many thanks to Lynne for her permission to reproduce them here), and a distressingly small collection of images culled from the net. Add to this already cheerless picture some uninspiring graphics, and wonky frames, and the result is a site that brings new meaning to the phrase "bloody awful." |
