Point of no Return
****** WARNING - MAJOR SPOILERS*******
C&C - Sheridan bursts into the Observation Dome, accompanied by a pale, drawn looking Ivanova. He takes up position before the Command Console, barely pausing for breath before addressing the ranks of anxious looking Techs assembled before him. Although the man is obviously shaken, Sheridan's voice retains it's clarity and authoritative tone.
Sheridan : By now you've all heard the news. In response to allegations of a conspiracy against the government, President Clark has declared Martial law back home, and ordered Mars and Io to enact similar restrictions. (After exchanging an eloquent look with his second in command) Now - they haven't hit us yet, but you can be sure that order will come soon.
Ivanova: All communications to earth have been blacked out since 08.00 this morning. Only the Gold Channels are still functioning but those are to be used for official military business only.
Sheridan : Now I know many of you have family back on Earth, and we are doing everything we can to find out what's going on . In the meantime, I ask you all to remain at your posts, and carry on as though everything were status quo. We've got a lot of nervous people here, and I'll need everyone of you to help calm things down.
( During the above speech, the camera pans across the stunned, disbelieving faces of the C&C staff, including Corwin who can be seen casting an astonished glance at a neighbouring tech, before returning his attention to the Captain)
Ivanova : It's possible that some of the other governments may take this opportunity to move against us, so we must maintain combat readiness. So continue the fly-bys - I want at least one squadron on patrol outside the station at all times.
Sheridan : ( Looking suitably sickened) Any questions?
Corwin : ( Hesitantly) Captain.....(The camera moves into the Pit, and finally alights on Corwin's face which somehow manages to look even younger and more innocent than usual) How did this happen? What did we do wrong?
Sheridan : ( Fixing Corwin with a dejected look before turning to leave the dome) I don't know Lieutenant. I don't know.
