"Yes, David Corwin was named for Norman Corwin, whose work you should investigate if you do not know it."

"Corwin is the main character in Zelazny's Amber series.) Not that David Corwin is very Corwin of Amber-like. That Corwin would more likely be a ranger."

[Hopes Corwin will continue to play a part in the story. ..B]

"We'll continue to see Corwin (played by Joshua Cox) for the balance of the season."

[ Summary: Asks why JMS has Keffer and Corwin in the story when it's clear to the poster that they are "redshirts" (i.e. doomed to die). ]

"Not at all. Yes, a character dies...after a season of getting to know him. To say, "Well, you just put in a character to kill him," and citing redshirts, is really...well, a red herring and a distortion. A redshirt, by definition, was usually a security guard who was introduced in the same episode in which he was killed, we knew *nothing* about him, he had maybe 2 minutes of screen time, maybe a word ("look out!", and then he was dead.

By the definition you apply, anyone who dies in a novel is a redshirt, since the author knew he was going to be killed off. If you do a novel about the Civil War, and Lincoln dies halfway through, is that a redshirt? Many of the characters in The Stand don't make it to the end...are they redshirts?

I hate to break it to you, but *everybody* dies sooner or later. For the purposes of this show, some die on camera, some die off, some die during the story, some die afterward. Nor was Keffer's character useless; through him, we got to see the Starfury pilots and learn more about them, we got our first close look at the shadows, we met the Gropos, and the primary incident that began to unravel the whole thing -- Keffer's gun camera footage -- came about. And Corwin's character is still very much alive, and useful in the story, so that kinda disqualifies *that*.

"Thanks. Corwin's question is really one that hits a lot; you see things starting to fly apart, but you keep thinking it's gonna work out..then it all goes to hell, and you're standing there trying to figure out how it all slipped away. It's a very innocent, yet universal question."

Question from LONDON: Martin Shaw

Hi, I really enjoyed the play between Ivanova and Corwin in Exogenesis. Are we going to see more of Corwin in future eps?

JMS: Not in the first batch, but later, I do want to do more with it.

"If Laurel *had* stayed with the show, by the middle of year two the fact that she was Control would've been revealed via the password incident. At that point, one particular possibility was that her second in command under her - a rather dour Russian lieutenant named Ivanova -- would've been promoted to take her place, while Laurel was moved off the chessboard. (This was planned because we knew going in that Tamlyn Tomita had a growing film career, and we probably could've only kept her for a couple of years in the best of circumstances. So why not turn that to your advantage?)

The position now being occupied by Corwin, Ivanova's second, is the position that Ivanova would've held (though more prominently) if Laurel had stayed on. (And no, Corwin doesn't now have that arc lurking in the background.)"

The following quotes are sadly presented out of context, and are derived from the "Save Corwin" web-site

"Because we have only $3 million on which to make these movies, we have to rotate the cast because we can't afford to have them all in any one of them. Bruce and Mira were in the first two, so we gave Tracy a shot and put in Jerry as well as Corwin (his first), Zack and Franklin."

"The Advanced destroyer group was still somewhat in the works when they hauled it out to go after the fleet. They'd been expecting mainly to go after other Earth ships (as was noted in the episode), and didn't count on exclusively being confronted by Whitestars. Still, there were a lot of them here, and they did a lot of damage by sheer force of numbers. Corwin would be running the station in everyone's absence." -- Between the Darkness and the Light

" Well, Corwin is technically Lochley's XO, but she's definitely involved in the day-to-day stuff. You'll understand when you see it."

"It involves some things that happen later this season that require a certain grade officer in place in S5, and would require Corwin to jump several ranks. He's too young and inexperienced for that job.[ie. achieving the position of Commander aboard B5]"
