Hunter, Prey

Back

External shot of B5: Camera moves slowly towards the front of the station, until the ongoing activity in C&C is clearly visible through the main viewport. Garibaldi is seen entering the Observation Dome, obviously in search of someone. The shot then transfers to the interior of C&C.

Corwin : (Appearing suddenly from off camera, and addressing Garibaldi with his usual air of courteous efficiency) Can I help you?

Garibaldi : (With more then a hint of urgency in his voice) Yeah - I'm looking for the Captain and Ivanova.

Corwin : They went down to Bay 13. I can link in if you want.

Garibaldi : (With machine gun rapidity) No, no, no - I need to talk to them in person. Thanks. (About to leave, then realizing the import of Corwin's statement, and turning to face him once more) Bay 13? Nobody goes into Bay 13!

Corwin :(In the same tone, and sounding completely unperturbed) That's what the Commander tried to tell him.

**************************************

Captain's Office: Sheridan and Ivanova are seen engaged in a rather nervous discussion.

Sheridan : (Looking suitably grim) With luck it'll buy Garibaldi 5 or 6 hours. Let's just hope that's enough. (At the sound of his link, Sheridan's face assumes a thoroughly weary expression) Sheridan. What is it?

Corwin: Captain - one of the ambassadors is asking to see you.

Sheridan : (Sounding faintly exasperated) Can it wait till morning?

Corwin : I don't know sir. It's Ambassador Kosh.

Ivanova: (With equal amazement and foreboding) Captain - in the 2 years I've been here, Kosh has never asked to speak to anyone.

Sheridan : (returning Ivanova's eloquent look) Tell him I'll be there as soon as I can.

************************************

C&C: Scene opens with a shot of Ivanova and Sheridan poring over the Command Console. They are obviously ill at ease in the unwelcome presence of Earthforce Agent Kransten, but are, out of necessity, maintaining a facade of helpful cooperation.

Ivanova : Internal scanners are now configured with yours.

Kransten: (Instructing one of his subordinates to examine Ivanova's work. The agent pushes between Sheridan and Ivanova, drawing less than cordial looks from both) Just double checking the interface to make sure it's working *properly.*

Corwin : (From his usual position in the Pit) Ambassador Kosh requesting permission to depart.

Sheridan : (Casting a look of disdain at Kransten's deputy) Tell him to wait. (Turning to Ivanova) Begin scan.

Ivanova : (Bending towards the console and operating something accompanied by a series of bleeps) Scanning on.

(As the scan commences, the camera moves to a shot of a monitor on the Command Console bearing a mobile display of the station, before returning to the impassive figures of Sheridan and Ivanova.)

B5 computer: Scanning complete. Subject not found.

Kransten : What!!?? (Moving between Sheridan and Ivaonva, and scrutinizing the console) That's impossible!! (Descends into the pit, and standing with his back to a very industrious looking Corwin) Are you sure the interface is working properly?

Ivanova: 5 by 5. The only reason he wouldn't show up was if he isn't here.

Sheridan: (With burgeoning anger) Mr Kransten - I took you at your word that Dr Jacobs was here. If you have turned my entire station upside down for nothing.....

Corwin : (Obviously a little apprehensive at the prospect of interrupting this exchange) Ambassador Kosh again requests permission to.......

Ivanova: Fine, fine - tell him he can go.

(CGI sequence of a mottled, squid-like Vorlon ship gliding slowly out of the docking bay. Once fully emerged, the rear of the vessel opens in a series of iridescent blue lobes)

Kransten : I don't understand it. (Proceeds to pace back and forth across the floor of the Pit, with Corwin still visible in the background) Our best information said that he was coming here. And the man who tried to sell me that information......

Sheridan : (Sensing an opportunity to halt Kransten's deductive speech) Round here, if you offer to pay for something or someone, you'll get 10 people claiming to have it - and they'll try to scam you out of the money.

Corwin: Ambassador Kosh ready for jump gate sequence.

Ivanova: Ok - tell him he can.......

Kransten: (Explosively) Now wait a minute!! I was *not* informed about a launch!
